I will be honest with you, I am an absolute NERD when it comes to technology. I have my phone and laptop on me at all times. But I am starting to hear something more and more.
"Why are kids so LAZY nowadays?"
And for those who play sports..."When my kid ISN'T at practice or games, they are always on their phones or Xbox!!!"
Now you may be asking, "What does this have to do with you being a nerd, Brian?" Technology is EVERYWHERE!! It is implemented in schools, at daycares, camps, and at home. The worst part about technology is that it is easier to get satisfaction than actually working out, playing or exploring the world outside if you have never been exposed to those FUN engaging activities.
Children being so invested in their fun tech devices it has had an immense impact on the Childhood Obesity rating of our nation. Children ages 6-11 have seen an increase from 6.5% to 18.5% since the '80s. Internet use for the ages 3-17 is above 60% compared to the 11% statistic in 1997.
Here are the 3 things you can start today to help combat the Lazy Child Syndrome (LCS):
3 Tips for Preventing LCS in Your Child
1. Create Family Fitness Challenges: Change up the Routine of your evenings and create fun challenges for the family (Push Up Challenge: Who can get the most)
2. Take them on FUN filled adventures: Take some time and go to the park, on a hike, or on a bike ride. Your child's brain will connect physical activity with fun and will make them continue to want more of those adventures!
3. Get EXCITED about what you want them to do: When a Child sees their parent excited about something or get involved with it themselves, they immediately want to be involved with it.
Which one of these 3 things do you need MORE of to help your child develop an active, motivated mindset when they aren't playing sports?
