After learning the gut wrenching news that another college athlete committed suicide, likely due in part to feeling massive, overwhelming pressure to live up to expectations, it was important for us to shine an even bigger spotlight on the mental health of athletes.
Treat them the way they need to be treated, not the way you would have want to be treated as an athlete yourself
Have a minimum of monthly 1 on 1’s with your players
Utilize assessments and questionnaires to keep a pulse on their health
Invest in mental game coaching for them
Recognize and reward progress- emphasize the journey over the destination every opportunity you get
Rhythm of Rest- know when they need time off
