April Warrior of the Month - Carol Wolcott

Hi everyone, I'm Carol Wolcott.  Here is a bit about my journey.

As a child, I was active, I rode my bike and roller skated, but was not involved in sports.  As a young adult, I enjoyed group workout classes like Jazzercise.  I also loved to walk outside.  After having kids, I started running on the treadmill regularly.  In 2008 a cousin suggested I train with her for a half marathon.  In 2009 I ran my first 1/2 marathon, and I have done a dozen more half marathons and 10 milers in the last 10 years.  I love having a future race to train for to keep me motivated.  In addition to running, in 2013 I joined a women's soccer team with some friends.  For the first time ever I was part of a team which has been a lot of fun.

As much as I love running, I felt that I could improve my health by adding weight bearing exercise as well.  I used to belong to a gym years ago but I always felt a little lost in a crowd of people.  In the past few years, between working full time as a software developer and running around with kids activities, I stopped working out as regularly and felt I needed to add some extra motivation back into my workouts.

My older son Nicky has been working out at PFP for several years and I have seen what a wonderful and supportive environment it is, so when I saw the PFP adult challenge in April of 2017, I thought that would be good motivation to get back on track.  While doing the challenge I lost a few pounds and inches and felt more energized.  It was the perfect motivation to try to clean up my diet as well which tends to be my biggest health related challenge.

I loved the small group workouts and the personal attention when working out so much that I decided to continue after the challenge was over.  A year later, I still appreciate the support and energy that the trainers and all the other warriors bring to every workout! Now both of my sons are working out at PFP and we are all enjoying every minute of our time here!

I’d like to say THANK YOU to all the folks at PFP who smile at us when we walk in the door and put so much effort into helping us to reach our goals and be the best we can be.  And THANK YOU to all the other warriors and student athletes who work out with such positive spirit and camaraderie every day!
