Yesterday I was watching football and my 3 year old son Jack “requested” that we turn the channel to watch the now infamous Truck Tunes.
To give you some context, I hear this so often that this is now the tune I sing in my head in the shower, on the drive to work, and yes, in meetings.
30+ different songs about different types of trucks, transport, and construction vehicles.
We have changed the channel to Truck Tunes so many times that I am now tuned into that channel even when I am not physically listening to it.
As it pertains to your daily thoughts, what channel are you most tuned into? Lies or truths?
I’m not qualified to do that scary thing over there.
Why even tryout? Even if I do make it, I’ll ride the bench.
She’s been avoiding me so she must not like me. I’m worthless and unlovable. It’s going to fail.
I’ll never get back to looking good again. I’ve gone too long without working out and now it would be too painful. I can’t do it.
It’s a losing battle, I might as well give up on this team, my marriage, my life…
We all have lies floating around in our minds. It’s the default channel (kind of like Truck Tunes at this point).
But my question is, do you have a channel to flip to immediately upon hearing the lie?
Here is the one and only solution you need to hear today to stop the lies and start the truths→ decide on a new channel and start flipping to it, today.
Lie: “Why even tryout? Even if I do make it, I’ll ride the bench.”
Truth: “The only way to score is to take the shot. The journey will make me strong regardless of if I make it and start, or not. Play the long game.”
Go now, begin writing down the conscious thoughts as they arise. Then, work to create a TRUTH statement so that you can “change the channel” faster.
Stand guard at the gate of your mind, my friend. Take back control of your thoughts today.
Serving you,
Andrew J Simpson
