Overcoming the FEAR of falling behind

Here is one of the most eye opening data points I have after doing research for my next book (by the way, thank you to everyone who has been helping me out so far with the data, the title, etc):

When parents and coaches were asked about the #1 biggest factor negatively impacting their athlete, here was the #1 answer by far:

➡️ The fear of falling behind, not measuring up, and not living up to expectations

You and I both know that when a person is driven by fear rather than faith, passion, or love for the game, the writing is on the wall. It isn't if there will be negative repercussions down the road or not, it is a matter of when.

But what if your athlete is just not maturing/developing physically as fast as other kids their age?

How do you, mom or dad, actually convince them that they will eventually get "there" if they just stay patient, consistent, and keep working hard?

How do you help them stop being so hard on themselves?

How do you get them to have a healthy approach to getting better, that includes patient persistence, balance, and determination?

My next book will help, but until that comes out in April, you probably need a COACH to reiterate and reinforce the same things that you are trying to teach them.

ACTION STEP: Today, go and talk with their sports coach about this if it is a concern for you (I am sure it is given the data).

Dedicated to your athlete's success in sports and life,

Coach Andrew J Simpson
