Parker's Why

Hello there, my name is Parker Sherrill. I am a rising senior at Urbana High School and have been training with the PFP family for two years.

I have been playing soccer since I was 3 years old. I have loved playing goalkeeper ever since I was a kid and have stuck with the position throughout my life. As a goalkeeper, I may not run around the field much, but I am the last line of defense. I have to cover a 192 square foot goal so being in the zone all the time is a must. A game of soccer is 90 minutes broken up into two 45-minute halves. In the modern game, a goalkeeper has to play with their feet, be good at handling the ball and shot stopping, have good communication, and stay focused through any situation to avoid simple errors that could cost their team the game.

I joined PFP to not only get myself more flexible and physically stronger, but to help my mental focus and preparation before games and tournaments. PFP has allowed me to improve my speed, explosiveness, and overall mobility. I have grown to be able to jump higher and be stronger in my body’s movements. I am confident in my strength, helping me to make saves when I am needed. I am also stronger mentally. I find myself staying in the zone more often, not allowing the intense pressure from competitions to bother me. I stay focused longer and my mistakes in the goal have decreased.

When I first started working out, I was nervous because I was far from the strongest man in the room. However, this quickly changed. At PFP, everyone is caring and pushing you towards success. There is no negativity, only encouragement to get back up and keep pushing harder to improve. Throughout my life while playing soccer, I have constantly been struck by unfortunate injuries. PFP has helped me to recover and prevent these. The coaches are always making sure I’m in top shape to work out and perform so that I can continue to grow.

The relationships I have built with the coaches and some of the athletes are priceless. I am very thankful to everyone at PFP for supporting me and helping me to grow into the best athlete I can be. Get your mind right!
