"Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible."
What gives Olympic athletes the ability to work so hard for so long?
They train for 4 years, not missing a day of training, a meal, a practice, or even a mental preparation session. They simply do everything they need to do for 4 years straight. Yes, many are gifted athletes who have been playing their sport their entire lives - but there is something more powerful going on.
They have a Clearly Defined Goal.
All the work they are doing is going into ONE event: the Olympic games. They will do everything in their power to prepare themselves the best they can for this one event; they know exactly what they want. In life, one of the most beneficial things we can do is have written goals. In fact, only about 3% of adults have ever written their goals down on paper. It is important that your goals are written down.
Writing is a psychoneuromotor activity that forces you to think and concentrate. That is why taking notes when you read is so important, it helps you retain the information. Writing puts things in your conscious mind; you will always be thinking about them.
Your brain has a success and a failure mechanism. The success mechanism is triggered by a goal. The failure mechanism is the temptation to follow the undisciplined path of least resistance. The failure mechanism is also triggered by procrastination. Procrastination is the thief of life! We are purpose-driven people! Confidence comes when you have a clear goal that you are working toward each day.
Want to achieve your goals? Here are 4 easy steps:
1. Decide what you want
2. Write it down
3. Set a deadline
4. Do something every day that moves you 1 step closer to your goal.
Have a great rest of your week!
